Beni, the robot on wheels that shoots in 4K and follows subjects

The world of drones might soon welcome a new category of devices. It's called Me and it's a small terrestrial robot designed to capture dynamic footage from a very close to the ground perspective. The project, developed by Mondo Robotics, will be launched through a Kickstarter campaign.

Equipped with wheels suitable even for the roughest terrain, Beni can automatically follow a person and perform cinematic movements such as chases, side shots, and orbits around the subject. Thanks to its integrated suspension, it can overcome obstacles about 25 centimeters high and reach speeds close to 30 km/h.

The built-in camera records video up to 4K at 30 fps, 3K at 60 fps, and Full HD at 100 fps. The robot has 32GB of internal storage expandable via microSD, as well as Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.4 connectivity. The stated battery life is about an hour and a half per battery, with the option for quick replacement.

Designed for athletes, skaters, pet owners, and families, Beni can also be manually controlled via a special wrist command. A dedicated app will also allow you to take advantage of AI-based services to automatically create clips with the most significant moments of the footage.

Among the planned accessories are wheels for different types of surfaces, additional batteries, a charging dock, and customizable aesthetic kits. Those who join the early stages of the campaign will be able to pre-order the device with an initial deposit and receive a discount on the final price, expected to be around $799. As with all crowdfunding projects, however, final commercialization will depend on the success of the fundraising campaign.
