It restarts on March 17th and 19th the project Mnemos in the Agro Nocerino Sarnese. The Didrammo Aps-MuDiF (Museum of Photography Education) under the patronage of Superintendence of Archives and Libraries of Campania, Salernitan Society of Homeland History, Camera-Italian Institute of Photography, promotes a territorial archive project with the aim of starting a collection of vintage images (from 1840 to 1990) relating to various themes: work (in the fields, in silk mills, cotton mills, agro-food industries), emigration, events (festivals, sagre/themed events), the environment (the river, the mountains, the countryside and gardens), family portraits, the war years (World War I and II), school (school photos), letters and postcards (from the front, from emigrants). For this first event, there will be Visit the first-year classes of the “Massimo Li Pira” Middle School in Nocera Inferiore, approximately 150 students. In the following weeks, the fifth-grade classes of the’“Eduardo De Filippo” Comprehensive Institute of S.Egidio del Monte Albino. The two schools have joined the MNEMOS project and are working to create a participatory photographic album of their respective territories.

«Schools of all levels and families of the students are directly involved in the project, as well as associations and organizations," explains the president of Il Didrammo, Vincenzo PetrosinoMnemos, the participatory territorial photographic archive It is intended to become the body of a rich historical memory. Phototypes and postcards, as has already happened in the Vallo di Diano, to be brought to light, to be found and recovered from boxes and drawers, from attics and garages, made available by families, by individuals, by public institutions and associations, religious and secular bodies to build a heritage of knowledge that reconstructs the changes that have occurred in the territory, in customs and habits of its inhabitants, but also in photographic technique.

There are diverse design variations.

  • Everyone in Class. A path reserved exclusively for educational institutions to create the album “education and school in ...”. Certainly, every school institution keeps snapshots of its students and events that have passed through its halls in its archives. Documentary evidence, memories that belong to many and that individuals have often carelessly put away and forgotten in some box or between the pages of a long-unread book. The smell of ink, the dust of chalk, the din of recess, still permeate these photos, perhaps a little crumpled, but no less dense with memories and emotions.

Recent History and Photographic Testimonies. Support and funding for the recovery, preservation, and digitization of the Francesco Jovane Photographic Collection, a well-known Nocera-born photojournalist, have recently matured from the MIC-Soprintendenza Archivistica e Bibliografica della Campania. The archive of the photojournalist Francesco Jovane has a estimated consistency of about 130,000 phototypes.

The photographer, active from 1950 to 2002, the year of his death, covered all major events of the second half of the 20th century, both national and international, including news and documentation of historical events, and expose of degradation and crimes. A vast photographic documentation, an important documentary support of technical as well as historical value that MuDiF wants to make available to pupils and students of schools, imagining a multi-year project.

  • In the Darkroom of WondersA journey of discovery with photography, how and when it originated, how a photo is constructed, and how it is printed. A true laboratory of representation, an image workshop where specific educational paths are mapped out, techniques are learned, and technologies made obsolete by digital are encountered: both would restore vitality and operability to “thinking hands.” The program involves groups of primary school students and small groups from the final year of preschool.
  • Learning The Family Memory Drawerto start building a Historical Nocerino Archive with family memories. Reserved for Middle School.

The collected material will be digitized – before being returned to its rightful owners – then cataloged, and finally made accessible on the website www.ildidrammo.it and on the dedicated digital platform www.ildidrammo.archivi.com  as well as being showcased in exhibitions and contexts dedicated to the territory and the charm of images that capture the passage of its time.
