HARD DISK

A hard disk (or hard drive) is a storage device used to store digital data within computers, servers, and other electronic devices. Data is recorded on one or more rotating magnetic disks and can be read or modified by a read/write head.

Main features
Storage capacity: from hundreds of gigabytes (GB) to several terabytes (TB).
Permanent memory: data remains stored even when the device is turned off.
Rotation speed: generally 5,400 or 7,200 revolutions per minute (RPM) in models for home computers.
Connection interfaces: SATA for the most common internal models and USB for external hard drives.
Types
Internal Hard Disk Drive (HDD): installed inside the computer and used as the main drive for the operating system and files.
External Hard Drive: Connected via USB port, useful for data backup and transport.
Portable Hard Drive: compact and easily transportable.
Advantages
High storage capacity.
Generally lower cost per gigabyte compared to SSDs.
Ideal for storing large amounts of photos, videos, and documents.
Disadvantages
Slower speed compared to SSD drives.
Increased sensitivity to shocks and vibrations, as it contains moving mechanical components.
Slightly higher energy consumption.

Today, hard drives are still widely used for storing large amounts of data, while SSDs (Solid State Drives) are preferred when higher performance and faster access times are required.
