Vicenza is hosting one of the most significant photography exhibitions of the season until July 26, 2026. The Palladian Basilica is showcasing “Guido Harari. Encounters. 50 Years of Photographs and Stories”, a journey spanning five decades of Italian and international photography through over 300 works: prints, installations, videos, projections, and unpublished archival material.
Guido Harari's name is indissolubly linked to musical portraiture. Over the course of his career, he has photographed legends such as Bob Dylan, David Bowie, Lou Reed, Kate Bush, Miles Davis, Keith Jarrett, and Herbie Hancock, as well as major figures in Italian culture like Fabrizio De André and Paolo Conte. These are joined by personalities from very different fields: from architect Renzo Piano to couturier Giorgio Armani, from scientist Rita Levi-Montalcini to footballer Roberto Baggio, and even the young activist Greta Thunberg.
What makes Harari's work unique is not just “who” he photographed, but “how.” His philosophy is founded on authentic encounter: creating a space of trust where the subject can let their guard down and reveal themselves. A technique made of listening, play, and improvisation—borrowed directly from music—that transforms each photo session into a visual dialogue rather than a simple shot.
The setup at the Basilica Palladiana is designed to enhance the monumental space of the celebrated Renaissance building, creating an immersive experience that engages the visitor on multiple sensory levels. The exhibition also intertwines with the festival New Conversations – Vicenza Jazz, scheduled from May 15 to 25, 2026, highlighting the direct link that connects Harari's work to the world of sound.
