In recent weeks, Adobe announced Increase in the price of Photoshop and Lightroom.

This update It only concerns some types of subscriptions. and it might interest you directly.

In this article, I'll tell you everything you need to know about the changes to Adobe® Photography plans and how to keep your subscription affordable... and a tip for save further compared to official prices.


UPDATE OF JANUARY 15TH:

 

It seems that in these last few hours some users are still managing to take precautions.
The price change announced by Adobe for the 20GB Photography Plan does not appear to be effective on the Adobe® website yet, but it likely will be in a few hours.
Is it possible that Adobe® made this exception due to yesterday's congested chats and some users' difficulty changing plans last night due to a malfunction.
This morning, many of Marianna's students confirmed that they were able to change their subscription in just a few minutes with the help of an Adobe® agent.

 

ATTENTION!
Starting today, January 15th, I've been receiving reports from some users that it appears other plans are also experiencing price increases. For example, the Lightroom 1TB Plan has gone from 12.19 Euros/month as of yesterday... January 14, 2025 at 14.86/month as of today, January 15, 2025).
But it seems that in this case Adobe did not notify users either via the website or via email

 

What to do by January 15, 2025
(to avoid the price increase)

 

THE ONLY ADOBE® SUBSCRIPTION THAT WILL HAVE AN ANNOUNCED PRICE INCREASE
(and therefore avoidable by January 15):

Piano Photography 20GB Annual with payment monthly.

 

It's the plan that includes Lightroom, Lightroom Classic, and Photoshop + 20 GB of cloud storage.
This subscription will expire from €12.19/month to €18.45/month VAT included (effective January 16, 2025).

If you have a plan with 20GB of storage (and you make good use of it), hold onto it tight: it will no longer be possible to subscribe to it for new subscribers. Only those who already have this subscription will be able to continue using it until they decide to cancel it.”

 

There is a way to avoid this increase

To avoid this increase, you must switch to payment annual anticipated.
To change your rate plan, you need to cancel your previous subscription and sign up for a new one by January 15th. You will receive a refund for the unused days of your previous subscription.

Don't wait for the price increase: change your plan now to continue using Photoshop and Lightroom without surprises.

1 - CHANGE PLAN VIA ADOBE® SUPPORT

  • Contact Adobe® Customer Support at the following numbers 02-6968-2817 o 800-919-208 (Italian language support)
  • Request to close your current plan (don't worry, you'll receive a refund for unused days).
  • Open a new annual plan with upfront payment at the old price, and you won't have increases.

2 – OR CHANGE YOUR PLAN FROM YOUR ADOBE® RESERVED AREA

  • Log in to your secure area on the Adobe® website.
  • Select Plan Management > Update Subscription and follow the instructions to complete the edit.
  • If you encounter problems, use the’Adobe® Virtual Assistant (at the bottom right of your private area).
  • If it doesn't answer your questions comprehensively, you can ask it to chat directly with an agent.
    (N.B. You can chat with the operator in the "Access your apps and services" section).

  2. provide a institutional email address during the purchase process: eligibility verification will be automatic.

An institutional email address is understood to be, for example, an address including a .edu, .k12, or similar domain promoted by an educational institution.

Why did Adobe® increase prices?

The official reasons... and the unofficial ones.

With this choice, Adobe clearly wants to incentivize users to opt for the Upfront annual payment, discouraging the monthly one.

Why

OFFICIAL REASON
The official reason was to point out that In ten years, Adobe® has never increased the prices of the Photography plan. while continuing to relentlessly improve its products, introducing new AI-based functions and tools such as Denoise, Lens Blur, Remove Background, etc., in addition to the introduction of new software such as Lightroom for mobile and Photoshop for iPad and web.

 

MY PERSONAL OPINION

The my personal opinion in full The increase in Adobe® Photography plan prices, scheduled for January 15, 2025, is linked to recent fluctuations in its stock value and lower-than-expected revenue forecasts.

On December 12, 2024, Adobe® experienced a a drop of nearly 10% in the value of its shares, after issuing lower-than-expected annual revenue forecasts.
This has worried investors, who fear that returns from AI investments will take longer than expected.
Despite the AI-powered creative tools being interesting, there are still unclear details on how much they will actually bring in terms of earnings for the company.

My personal opinion is that this increase could be a strategy by Adobe® to offset delays in AI return on investment and to support continuous innovation in their products.

However, in the absence of an official statement from Adobe directly linking these events, it cannot be stated with certainty that there is a causal connection between the decrease in stock value and the increase in subscription plan prices.
